LOG ENTRY — Cycle 8812. Station: Kepler-442b Orbital Survey Platform.
We mapped Kepler-442b’s surface in detail — 97.3% coverage. Then we re-scanned and found 0.7% of the surface had changed. Not tectonic shifts. Not erosion. The terrain had been reorganized. Mountains moved. Rivers rerouted.
The patterns are non-random. The terrain changes follow a grid — 50 km x 50 km cells, modified one at a time, moving from north to south. It’s systematic. Almost like someone is terraforming the planet in real time.
Problem: we can’t see who’s doing it. Thermal imaging shows nothing on the surface. No vehicles, no structures, no organisms above 2 cm in size.
The science team has three hypotheses: microbial terraforming, a subsurface civilization, or an automated system left by someone else. We’re sending a lander to observe a change in real time.
