We’ve reached Europa’s southern ice shelf. The bore probe went down 19 kilometers through solid ice before hitting liquid water. What we found in the water isn’t what the models predicted.
The subsurface ocean contains organized molecular structures — not life, not yet, but precursors to life arranged in patterns too regular to be natural. Helix chains with repeating amino acid sequences that match nothing in our databases.
Then we found the signal. A low-frequency pulse, 7.3 Hz, emanating from 30 kilometers below the water surface. It’s rhythmic — 4-second intervals, exactly 4 seconds, never varying. Natural phenomena don’t keep perfect time.
The science team is split. Half think it’s a bacterial colony producing rhythmic chemical signals. The other half think we’re looking at the first confirmed extrabiotic artifact — a structure created by a biological process but existing independently of it.
We’re deploying the submersible drone tomorrow. Captain has authorized a 72-hour window. I don’t like how quiet the crew has gotten. Nobody’s joking anymore.
