The Ganymede relay picked up a transponder signal from a derelict research station in the Jovian trojan belt. Designation: HAVEN-5. The station has been dark since the Resource Wars — officially decommissioned, all personnel reassigned. But the transponder is broadcasting a distress code that wasn’t in any of the old fleet protocols.
I patched the signal through the linguistics server. The code is a variant of an old Martian colonial cipher. Decoded, it reads: “The sleepers are waking. Do not approach.” That’s not standard decommission procedure. Command wants a flyby. I want to nuke it from orbit. We’re compromising with a drone reconnaissance first. If the drone goes dark, we have our answer.
The captain authorized weapons hot. That’s never a good sign.
