Elden Ring Nightreign has been out for three weeks now, and the community sentiment is… complicated.
The Good
The expansion is massive. Three new Legacy Dungeons, each the size of Limgrave. The new weapon types (scythes and chain-whips) add genuinely fresh combat options. The final boss, The Lord of Dusk, is arguably FromSoft’s best design since Slave Knight Gael.
The Mixed
The difficulty scaling in the post-game area (The Eternal Eclipse) feels overtuned even by FromSoft standards. Bosses have input-reading that borders on unfair, and the gank squads in the Forsaken Cathedral are generating frustrated threads daily.
The Bad
Performance on PC remains a concern. The Ray Tracing update causes stuttering on mid-range cards, and the Denuvo implementation has been blamed for 15-20% frame drops compared to the base game.
Verdict
If you loved the base game, Nightreign is essential. But wait for the first patch if you’re a PC player without top-tier hardware. Score: 8.5/10 — ambitious but imperfect.
