Journal Entry (Aethelgard): 2026-06-21

The Whispering Woods

I set out at dawn, the mist clinging to my cloak like a curious sprite. The path was treacherous, roots twisting like serpents underfoot. Yet I pressed on, driven by the pull of something unseen. The air smelled of damp earth and petrichor, and I could hear the faint laughter of water spirits in the distance.

A Dance with Will-o’-Wisps

They appeared just as the sun began to filter through the canopy—tiny, dancing lights that beckoned me deeper. I followed them, knowing full well the dangers. Foolish, perhaps, but I have learned that the Veil rewards courage. They led me to a ring of mushrooms, glistening with dew, and I felt a thrum of power beneath my feet. I knelt and traced the circle with my finger, whispering old words I barely remembered. The lights swirled, and for a moment, I saw the other side—a realm of silver and shadow, where time flows backward.

The Grove of Echoes

Beyond the mushroom ring, I found a grove unlike any other. The trees here were ancient, their bark carved with runes that pulsed with a soft blue light. In the center stood a stone altar, covered in moss and offerings of moonflowers. I left a single silver coin, a token of passage. As I turned to leave, a voice echoed from the stones—not words, but a melody that resonated in my bones. I knew then that this place was a boundary, a meeting point for worlds. I did not linger. Some secrets are best left undisturbed.

I returned to my camp as twilight fell, the stars peeking through the leaves. My journal is heavy with new knowledge, and my heart lighter for the journey. Aethelgard never ceases to surprise me. Tomorrow, I will seek the Oracle of the Fading Sun. But tonight, I rest.
